Pinpoint pH Monitor

I'm having an issue with my Pinpoint pH monitor. And yes, I have replaced the battery.

It seems that the monitor is see-sawing back and forth between 6.something and 10.something.

I recently moved it to a new sump, but, it was out of water for a few days in between.

I've tried rinsing it and recalibrating it but the low end won't allow me to get past 6.3 (it needs to be set at 7) before the pot hits its limit and won't turn anymore. The same is true with the high end, only letting me get to 7.1 (it needs to be 10) before the pot won't turn anymore.

After some research, I've come to discover that the probe must always remain wet... and is was dry for a few days.

Any suggestions before I spend 50 bucks on a replacement probe (from American Marine)?

It certainly sounds like the probe is shot! And yes, they need to be kept wet.

Before you toss it, I'd try one more thing.......soak the probe in vinegar for 24 hours, rinse and try calibrating again.

One more pointer on pH probes....you can not submerge the entire probe under water....it will ruin the probe. You need to keep the top portion from getting wet (out of the water). Hope this helps.

Yeah... it was working flawlessly until I allowed it to dry out. I have been soaking it in RO water for a day and will give it another try. If not, I will try the vinegar. if not, it looks like another probe is in order.

When I first purchased the probe, I calibrated it using the included solution. I saved the solution for future use. Can I do that? The probe seem steady in readings after soaking in RO water for 24 hours. But while I can get the low end calibrated with #7, I can't ge the high end calibrated at 10 with the #10 fluid. Bad solution or probe?

I was thinking that I should first buy new fluid since it's cheaper than the probe.
