Pipe organ receding

I have a pipe organ coral that ive had for a few years with great growth. Recently it has started to recede and show some of its skeleton. Its also swarming with tiny brittle starfish. Any ideas?

Could you frag off the dead parts? - reason being - are the starfish just 'cleaning up' the dead coral - or causing the problem? Have you tried a dip?
 
Mine does not like high nitrates. It also grows much better and is healthier when it’s in some pulsing flow.
