Pipe shelving

I have used pipe then put a board shelf up and attached a smaller pipe protruding from the board to attach the light. Not sure if this is what you were inquiring about but was super easy! And beats hanging from the ceiling

This is basically what I'm looking to do, but with a 48 inch, 4 bulb T5 fixture. Also, The tank, because I couldn't drill the bottom, is drilled in the back and is away from the wall more than I'd like so I'd need the pipe to extend about 20 inches from the wall. Should be good, yes?

Tough call. Depends on how well your pipe is attached to the wall, how strong the pipe is (i.e. metal vs pvc) and how strong the shelf is.

If you do it, I'd consider you don't hang the light from the shelf like it is in the photo. That's OK for a lightweight fixture. For a heavier fixture I'd loop the hanger around the pipe. Removes the risk of pulling out of the wood or warping the wood shelf and spreads the weight out toward the ends rather than concentrating it all in the middle.

My intention is to loop around the pipe

I still have to hang my second light but you can adjust the pipe size as needed to stick it out farther just make sure you have weight on the shelve so it does not tip over. I’ll paint it all black once I get the second light up

Thoes pipes are mounted in studs with 3 inch deck screws. attach the shelve to the pipes and you can hang any light on the market regardless of weight. If you have to stick it out farther just use a thicker slab of lumber for the shelve. I have a 48" t5 fixture that I used to use for growing and had it mounted a similar way for vegging out plants. Should work fine! Post some pictures up once ya get it figured out.

Nice

Maby not any light on the market (1000w ballasts can weight alot) I take that back, but that t5 should be fine! use steel pipe You can put up 3 pipes for the shelve in studs for added support. that light cant weight more than 20 pounds? My dad has a 3 inch slab on his shelve at home which looks really nice as well.

Pretty sure it weighs more than 20 pounds

That’s a heavy duty light! I just picked mine up then tested it next to a 30 lb bag of dog food and mines lighter. Anyways following along to see what ya end up with! Good luck

There are different ways it could be done, just make sure you are solid into studs.

Here is a page from lounge post of people that do woodwork, if you scroll down there is a cool pipe shelf that could probably be done similar and look nice, maybe add a T to extend pipe as needed.
Check this, and another good option might be a TV mount.
