I have a 20g tall tank and 20g sump,
I’m ready to drill my tank to add plumbing to the sump. I just don’t know what size holes to drill. I am planning on drilling two holes and using pvc at a 90° angle and a screen to the rim line. I have An 800gph pump and plenty of soft plumbing laying around.
I was thinking of drilling two 1 3/8th holes for 1in drainage pipes and having a 3/4in return line.
Will this work? Or is the pump going to be too strong.

if you add a gate valve to the piping and have a controllable pump, you can always dial it back to adjust the flow.

This is what I would do.
