Recently bought a white cap goby v lucky to see my lfs had one and don't think they realised what it was and rarity etc so today I went and got a pistol shrimp for him to pair with but had no tiger pistol shrimp which I was hoping for so I got generic greeny coloured pistol shrimp.....turns out he's big bigger than what I thought over 4cm prob closer to 10cm and is quite a bully in tank towards crabs and cuc so my question is is there such a thing as a bad pistol shrimp nowadays?

Yes, definitely. There are some pistol shrimp species that can get aggressive and that don't pair with gobies. The best two species for pairing with gobies are the Tiger like you mention, and also the Randall's or Candy Cane which is smaller but colorful.
