pistol shrimp and goby pairs

I was looking around on the web at shrimp and goby pairs. My question is how do you quarantine the goby without the shrimp? Will they un-pair after being separated for that period of time? Will they pair back up? Anyone have any experiences with them?

They will find each other, may take a bit but they should pair right up when they find each other.

Is there a reason you can't QT the shrimp with the goby? K2 is right though, they should pair back up without issue.

Its awesome that your taking the step to QT your fish, inverts cannot tolerate copper whatsoever so if you were to merely put both of them in QT you wouldn't be medicating the QT at all. In my experience, I have never seen a sick goby which leads me to believe they are not very disease prone so if you dont want to separate them im sure a few weeks of observation will be more than sufficient. If you really feel the need to medicate them you can use prazi pro for flukes and worms, based on my understanding this is actually a medication you can treat a display tank with so it shouldnt do any harm to the shrimp. if you separate them they will find each other again at one point or another.

^^^^ I have used prazi in a full reef (( shrimp, clams, anemones, etc )) without any issues.


As for the goby/shrimp combo, I wouldn't worry. When I moved I lost the shrimp of my pair. Went to an LFS, picked up a new shrimp. I released it near the burrow of the shrimp, within 24 hours they were paired up --- nearly a year later I can still just sit and watch them do their thing.
