Pistol Shrimp escape

Anyone have experience with a pistol shrimp ending up in an overflow? I just unexpectedly found mine in my overflow thankfully still alive. Took about an hour to get him finally out. I thought they stay on the bottom of the tank?

Yes I have seen them out and about.
