pistol shrimp in reef tank?

im looking at getting a tiger snapping shrimp for 65 gal reef tank. will these guys harm my CUC and will he be eaten by my eel (it is a pebble tooth)?

I have one w the following inverts. No problem. Various hermit crabs, asteria snail, Mexican turbo snails, cleaner shrimp

Can’t speak to the reef. I’m running FOWLR

Hope they’re reef safe for u. I’ve got one bonded to a watchman goby and watching them Interact is the most satisfying part of the hobby for me.

thanks! it says they are reef safe. did you purchase the shrimp and goby together or did you add them at different times? I have a watchman and Im hoping they might bond.

Awesome. I added mine at Different times. Got the shrimp first. He was settled before I added the goby. They bonded immediately. Not sure if it makes any difference who goes first. Hope they bond and u get to experience it firsthand

I had one and it cost me hundreds of dollars in coral, anytime i went away for the weekend i'd come back and he would have buried something within 3 inches of the bottom of the tank. I liked him but i'll never get another one again

They do like to landscape. I keep empty shells on the floor for my hermits and my pistol shrimp uses them to decorate or reinforce his burrow if they get too close. Anything he can lift is game. Charming.

hmmm, I didn't think about that. I have a lot of LPS on the sand bed so that probably would not be the best idea. ive had one of these guys before in a nano and he did like to move the sand

I added a pistol a little while ago and for the first month it infuriated me by burying zoos, tipping over a duncan into a hammer, etc.. Now the critter has settled down and created a home under a large piece of rock, while I've relocated the close-by corals on the sandbed. At this point I'm happy with the pistol and can recommend one.

I’ve had mine over a year and he still goes out every night to dig around and cause structure collapses. But my rocks aren’t glued or attached in any way so there’s that.

To prevent rock structure collapses, all you have to do is place the rocks in the tank before adding sand or just push them into the sand. I've had no problems with my pistol, but I agree that they will steal frags positioned close to their burrows.

I got a hammer and smashed a few beach shells into smaller pieces and dumped them into my shrimp's burrow. Pistol shrimp use shells and rock rubble to help stabilize their burrows.

Both of my watchmen didn't pair up with the shrimp at first, so I had to chase them into the burrow. As for the CUC, my shrimp doesn't harm them, but he does kick the occasional hermit or snail out. It's pretty funny to watch
