Hello,

I just added a Pink Bar Goby and Red Banded Pistol Shrimp to my RSF 170 tank. After the acclimation period I had the pistol shrimp in a net and was attempting to lower it down to the sand bed. Unfortunately I messed up and the shrimp came out of the net and onto my live rock. It then proceeded to crawl into one of the many caves in the live rock and I have not seen it since. Today was the first day that I added them to the main display and it has been about 7 ish hours since addition.

The Goby has been down in the sand bed, and I doubt that it will ever come up high into the rock work where the shrimp disappeared into.

My question is, will the shrimp eventually make it's way down to the sand? Or will it forever be a permanent resident of the liverock? I was hoping to see if I could get a bonded pair out of the two.

I know it's pretty early, I was just wondering if anybody has had an experience similar to this?

The pistol will make it's way down to the sand as that is where they live. Should find your goby in no time. My pair disappeared for days before I saw them again and it took over a year for my goby to stay visible when I was around the tank.

The pistol shrimp isn't lost, he knows exactly where he is...

Wait until he bulldozes a new home for the goby and he to live in...
Give him time to do his own aquascaping.

Don't worry about it you'll soon see its tunnels in the sand. Heck the only way I know mine is still alive is the clicks at night lol. I once in a while feed him mysis at the entrance to a cave and 9 times out of 10 he will stick out a claw to grab the food but no more.

Awesome thanks everyone for the replies. I found my goby with its head barely poking out from under the live rock. I still have not seen any signs of the pistol shrimp yet (sounds or tunnels). However this is only the second day in the display tank. I'll give it some time, now that I have confidence that it will eventually makes its way down to the substrate.

Thanks all for the input.

Sometimes what I do for my pistol is buy baby blue hermits, under a 1/4in every now and then they will wonder too close to the cave and BAM become food. He seams to be going through one per month and it keeps him happy.
