Why does my pistol shrimp live in a small hole in very top of my rock? Its a relatively new tank so theres a minimal amount of algae. I just spotted him, Ive only seen him a couple times since I added him and he was with the goby on the sand. Now that my goby is dead (Jumped out of small hole in lid) he's never going to come out so how will he eat? Is it normal for him to be in the rocks? Should I just put some mysis next to him and hopefully he will eat?

It should eat with or without a goby friend. As long as you don't have predators in the tank that would like to make a meal of the shrimp, it will come out and eat when it feels safe. If you do have predators, you can spot feed where it lives. It will smell the food. I see mine about once a month. The rest of the time, it lives under ground in my sand. :)

I woke up to a huge hole in the sand, there are no predators. In fact he is all alone. Would clownfish pick on him?

I tried to feed my pistol shrimp not thinking anything would happen but as soon as I put the food in the water he jumped out grabbed it and ran back inside! Wow!

I saw my pistol shrimp for a solid two weeks as he was making his home and now i barley see him. But i know he’s living and working because he’s always ******* with the sand big old mounds with the goby

Did you ever get the clownfish? How did it go? I have one maroon clownfish (supposedly the meanest) that is as calm and sweet as can be, one that is a royal bully to any other fish that comes near its territory, and I also have one little ocellaris that bites me every time I put my hand in the tank and has even tried to jump out of the water to get me. Clownfish like any other fish, have their own personalities. Keep in mind that they are a damsel, so...

With that said, though many clownfish become territorial over time, none of mine have ever bothered my CUC which includes various types of snails, pistol shrimp, porcelain shrimp, fire shrimp, hermit crabs, peppermint shrimps, strawberry crab, and emerald crabs, other than to pick them up and move them from their territory.
