Hello, so I recently added a tiger pistol shrimp to my 32 gallon aquarium and I couldn't find it after the first day, and I kept checking my tank, and I eventually saw what looked like to be a piece of tail shell and was told that it looked like it had molted, and to keep my eyes on the tank, which I did, and I kept moving the rocks around in hopes of finding it, but I never saw it again, so I replaced it with a red stripe (candy stripe pistol shrimp) with a diamond goby. I drip acclamated the goby for half an hour, and then I put it with the pistol shrimp and acclamated them both for about 30-45 minutes before adding them to my tank. The next morning I saw the pistol shrimp, and later on that day I saw what appeared to be a molted shell later that day, and I have not seen it since after moving my rocks around trying to look for it. I have some cardinal fish, some peppermint shrimp, some emerald crabs, 2 clowns, and 2 sea stars. I'm just curious if any of those might have attacked it after it molted. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

That’s just the life of having a pistol shrimp. You aren’t gone see the thing very often and they tend to go into the holes of live rock. Best way to know it’s alive is if u hear some clicking sounds from time to time. Try not to disturb it even if you don’t know where it is. Also inverts that molt will try to hide itself from everything because they know they are vulnerable.

pistol shrimps dig tunnels under rocks and thats where they live and spend all their time. You will be very lucky to see your pistol shrimp, I get to see mine once maybe every 2 months, and just for a few seconds. Its one of those expensive critters we pay for but never get to see. You should hear a clicking sound though

The more you move the rocks around the more you have a chance of hurting the little guy. They're a digger. You will hear clicking sounds and sand moved around.

so far, I haven't heard any clicking, and I've moved my rock work very gently to try and find it, but haven't seen anything. I know they're nocturnal, but I've never heard them click accept for when I first received the candy stripe after adding it to the tank. It clicked twice at one of my emerald crabs, and then dissapeared.

Well it may not have to click. Clicking sounds are produced when it’s trying to repel potential predators or just an annoying snail going by. I’d say just wait, don’t stress yourself about it.

Do not move any rockwork. Let the shrimp acclimate and dig his borrow. He will get adjusted and come out on occasion for grab some food. Mine lived for about 4 years. There were days I saw him and days that I didn't.

I very rarely see mine just an occasional click and sand moved.

I was fortunate enough for my shrimp to have set up its burrow pressed up to the glass. I was always able to see it. Then I upgraded my tank, and despite trying to replicate its former cave, I never see the pistol shrimp these days.
