Hey all! I was thinking about getting a pistol/goby combo for my biocube. I was just wondering if they were reef safe with zoos/palys and also safe with snails and hermits? Thanks!

Pistol shrimps are fine. The only problem I had with mine was all the digging it did. It drove me nuts!

Yeah the main thing I have read about them is the digging and moving of frags to use as support for their cave. I really want a pair myself.

I've never had a problem with mine. It makes a lot of noise at night, but stays in its hole most of the time. It is an Alpheus sp. pistol.

that video surprised me b/c i used to have a very similar looking pistol in my nano for months, and it never bothered anything including my skunks.

delsol650 That video is totally cool....

Overall they are pretty reef safe... there can alway be the exception though....

That is a pretty cool video. I wasn't able to view it at work. Coral magazine did an article on pistol shrimp not too long ago (6-8 months?) and used high speed photography to film males attack other males. Interesting stuff.
