Anyone have experience with pitho crabs? I bought two from reef cleaners to help with bubble algae. It has been a week and they just hide in the sand. LOL

They like to come out in the evening/at night. The few I’ve had were all variable in how active they were (none as much as my first one). They are great cleaners even if you don’t see it.

I've got 7 or 8 them from both Reef cleaners and salty bottom. From small to big ones. They are always out in the evening/night/morning cleaning. They bury during the day but you can see them even then sticking their claws put and picking at rocks. they really put a dent in my bubble algae.

Ok good to know.. I have not seen them out in evening or at night though.. I will keep an eye out :)

These are crabs I trust and are good workers when it comes to nuisance algaes

I have a few, it'll take awhile but they do take care of bubble algae. They burrow most of the day. I have one who likes to snug up under the polyps of my Duncan but doesn't seem to bother it. They also do a good job of keeping the sand stirred.

Mixed success for me with Pithos. My most recent is excellent with the bubble algae. My previous ones were more "pets" than CUC, though, since I fed them extra nori--I don't feed this one and he's been scouring the tank cleaning. I'll get a patch of bubble algae growing that will go for days untouched and then suddenly gone one morning.

Love Pithos and never had a problem with one harming corals, except for occasionally burying itself and knocking over a loose sand bed frag.

They don't move much in the daylight

You can barely see this one but he's under the polyps on the left side
