Placement of Ricordeas

Hi everyone. I am new to the hobby and i wanted to ask a question regarding ricordeas. I glued 4 ricordeas all together in a circle on a piece of LR and they seem to be doing well. I am noticing that two are growing quite large. The other two are much smaller and not opening up as big, but they seem happy (imo it looks like the two bigger ones are taking over and not allowing the smaller two to get sufficient light?). Should i remove the other two from the rock and spread them apart? How big can ricordeas tend to grow? and what would be the best was to remove it from the rock? Thanks to you all for your help.

Are these ricordia yumas or floridas? I find them needing slightly different needs. Also, what color? My green ones can handle high light and almost any placement. The oranges prefer dark areas. That has been my experience with the floridas that I have had. The yumas, well, mine did not like that tank I added to and were lost in a few months. These were under good lighting and medium flow. That tank houses rock nems, mushrooms, rics, zoas just fine.

I have a lot of ricordia, they grow well anywhere in my tanks, especially the Yuma types. I also have blue/green Florida recordia, and these I notice do better in lower light. The following pics showing Yuma recordias in the same tank with different locations, both colonies thriving regardless;

nice pics. I do not think that helped tho. My question is when glueing down the ricordias should you space them out to grow or will they grow just fine if glued all together. i do not have pics at the moment. I will post after work. Thanks again for your help.

4 small green ricordias glued closely together. Two of them are on top of the LR and the other two are on the sides of the LR. The two on top look amazing and look like they over shadow the other two on the sides thus the ones on the side are not as big as the two on top. Should i leave the two on the sides alone or should i take the two from the sides remove them and glue them on top of the rock to get better lighting and grow? if i do take them off the rock how should it be done? thanks

RJramos: beautiful growth. when you glue them together do they grow together or will one over shadow the other and cause it to starve.

Mine spit out babies and move a little bit accordingly. I usually just place them and forget about them.

I have never successfully glued mine. They always come off. I usually have to put them in a small basket with rock ruble and wait for them to attach. Or, I just add them to the tank and hope they find somewhere happy (flow off for a while).

Good luck. They will move if really unhappy (well, unattach that is).

No. I usually either cram them into a hole so they can attach or i put them in a low flow area in a dish so they attach to rubble and then I move them.

ok. my question is, do you think the ones that are being taken over by the two bigger ones should be moved. I look at it like a snake in a tank. If the tank is small the snake wont grow as big. Same thing with the ricordias if they are all together literally one growing on top of the other will the smaller ones eventually die due to the bigger ricordia not allowing it to grow. or will they just grow together?

It really depends on whether they are getting the nutrition they need. They may be missing some light, but if you feed they may be fine. If they begin to lose color, move them. If they shrink, move them.

Recordias are able to move over a rocks surface. So whether they are glued down or not they will move, the larger ones leaving behind a clone out of it's attachment base.
