Where to place palys and zoas.....

I used to place a zoa where I wanted it and whatever color it morphed into was what it was gonna be. But, now I find myself wanting to duplicate the best scenario to make the color "pop" on a certain paly or zoa. How do you fellow zoa addicts decide where to place them?

I have put PPE, Nuclear greens, RPE , etc to the bottom thinking they want less light, but when I placed a pink up top thinking it needed light , it almost bleached....ARGGH
Any ideas or experiences are appreciated

depends on the lights I like too start low and work them up. With the exception of carribbs they go high from start

well you did the right thing by starting them from the bottom. they say that most blues will like less light. when i placed my deep blues (tubs blues, blue w/ green skirt etc) under high light, they would usually turn crappy aqualight blue. some of the other strains like pink elephants love high light. ppes, low light. depends on your tank lighting as well. start them from the bottom and move the midway to experiement. then higher higher, if unhappy lower..lower.. ;]

IME most blue's, and purple's like low light. Bright colors like yellows, greens, reds, pinks like high light. It really depends on the individual zoa or paly. A good rule to follow is to start everything low and then move them up slowly. If they start to fade or lose color move them back down.
