My valida currently having stn. And purple rim monti had rtn a month ago on the right.
Alk 11.2 cal 440 mag 1420 salinity 1.025 nitrate .1 phos .005

There’s no rhyme or reason for it that I know of. If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

Your alkalinity is too high for your nutrients. Either raise your no3 and PO4 or drop your dkh to 8 or lower

What’s the best way to raise po4. I do reef roids every other day and 3 cubes of mysis daily

In my 90

lots you can do:
1. Feed more
2: Add more fish and feed more
3: if applicable, reduce photo period on refugium
4: if applicable, reduce time protein skimmer is on
5: dose PO4 and NO3 directly to the tank

I dose PO4 and NO3 directly to the tank to keep my numbers at 5ppm NO3 and .05ppm PO4. I test weekly and dose as needed. I use Seachem Flourish Nitrogen and Phosphorous

Nice thank you for the advice! I’m currently running a kessil H80 24/7 in the Fuge. I turn it off for 10 mins before the display light turns off to let the chaeto sleep. I’ve read chaeto only needs 6 mins a day to rest and not die. It’s been alive for 4 months .What would you recommend for shortening its light cycle ?

I would cut it back to half of the time and go from there.

Yeah cut fuge light to 12-8 hours. I have a very small fuge in my sump and it has been keeping no3 undetectable on API tests. I know I need more accurate lower range test kits. Chaeto fuges are very effective at removing no3 IME. Bump up your feeding some and watch no3 and po4. Try feeding a pellet or flake food most have some po4, frozen foods have very little po4. If you are running GFO stop.

Your starving your corals get those nitrates up to 5-10 and po4 0.4-0.6 with all high you can’t keep your water super clean

I’ve been trying for months to get them up. I feel like I feed a ton. In my 90 I have 10 fish. 50ish or more different corals. I feed:
An hour after lights on 2 cubes of pe mysis
3 hours later 10ml roti feast, 10 ml artici pods
3 hours after that 1 cube hakari spurlina for fish and 1 cube hakari mysis tong feed to lps showing good polyp extension that day.
3 hours later a sprinkle of pe mysis pellets and 10 ROE or roti feast

Then every other day I do a half teaspoon of reef roids after lights off. It seems like so much food. I don’t know lol.

get more fish in my 90 fw I have around 25 fish, buy 5 more fish test see what your numbers are at for a few weeks then add more or get rid of a few.

Slow your roll, don’t overcrowd your tank to try to get nutrients up. Even with undectable numbers your tank is much dirtier than the ocean. Overcrowding your tank will lead to multiple issues and that’s not what you want. Slowly decrease fuge time and fixed more mixtures and maybe feed your corals more. Go slow and everything will be fine.

You can cut your skimmer time down as well and all of this will save you money and not add to your headaches per say.

Then its not your feeding its just maybe tank maturity and your nutrient export is probably in high gear.. a good think but what I did when my nutrients where low was add a auto feeder to the sump dumping pellets 6 times per day near the return pump and using the skimmer 50% of the time. Your nutrients may not be the problem it may just be the high alk. I feel any hobbyist honing their ALK management skills should keep ALK around 8.5-9dkh. Once your confident then go 7.3-8DkH range - which IME reduces any necrosis considerably and results in SPS being able to handle almost any kind of nutrient level and light level. Also, I would say sps frags do much better lower light 150-200PAR and as they grow up they will grow faster into the more PAR zone above them.

I tried the 7.5-8.0 range and couldn't get anything to grow then when I moved to 9.0 I got a ton of growth and its been smooth sailing since.

Something does not make sense, believe me an alk of 12 is way to high and I personally do not know of any tank of the month that runs it that high. Also if a validia colony is dying you could have bigger issues, they are the first to degrade on big issues. I bet my you have had varying level issues and your consistency is the issue. 9 time out of 10 that’s the major issue for most reefers.

I had a salinity swing 2 weeks ago, only up to 1.027 though. I keep my other tank at 11 alk and things grow like crazy. My 90 is 5 months old now. And my doser does 25 ml of alk and cal 12 times a day. What should I dial it down to? It’s 2 part.
I also started turning my fuge light off when the t5’s turn on , on my hybrid fixture .
