Placing feather dusters

Ok so ive harvested the worm and am transporting him home atm. While there was only 3 inches exposed while gently removing him ive discovered his tube is 23" long. The bottom 19" appear flacid and hallow. Can a portion be safely removed without hurting the worm?
That does not sound like a feather duster. I've had several... also had tube anenome. That sounds like the later. Mine was named Ursula. That sea witch basically ate hundreds of my dollars. Be careful with them.... they have a big appetite and they can spread out those tentacles pretty far. At night, they go wild. I eventually had to put mine in time out. Best of luck to you.

Im a novice. I want to put corals and fish in the tank is it worth keeping or should i release? Theres a patch of about 30 of about of them 50 foot off my local shoreline and they've been there for year i just mis ID'd them. Is it worth the hassle now seeing as im just dipping my toes in the water?

I'd release it. In a heartbeat. Ursula was the dumbest purchase I ever let my LFS recommend. I got sucked in by oooohhh.... pretty. I was pretty stupid. It was horrific to wake up one day to watch my $40.00 firefish wrapped in it's painful grasp. It hurt coral, fish... and I even lost clean up crew. I will look at those in pictures and file that under NEVER again. She earned her name....
On a side note.... be careful about harvesting off the shoreline and placing in your tank. If you do not QT, you are highly likely to be bringing all sorts of unwanted things with it that can wipe out your tank. In our area (SWFL), it is actually reportable to the FWC if you take critters out of the coastline. My LFS has a sign that says.... "You found something at the beach and you want to know how to care for it? PUT IT BACK WHERE YOU FOUND IT!"

PS Congrats on the baby. Such a beautiful time in your life. It is incredible to want to incorporate your love of the ocean into your childs' life. #parentingwin

I would recommend releasing it again. Mine came with my tank, so I am stuck with it for now, but I have a 75-gallon FOWLR (well, with one 2"-diameter mushroom leather coral) with the smallest fish being a 2-3" Chromis. The tube anemone is off in a corner on its own in the sand bed, so there is a low likelihood of damage to other occupants. It will probably not be moved to my 90-gallon reef that I am currently planning/setting up, and may get its own dedicated smaller tank.
