Hi guys. I have a Maxima clam that is currently attached to a big frag plug on the sanded but it only gets about 100-120 par in that spot. I know it has to go higher in the tank but I have no space to put it higher up, most of space higher in the tank is taken by a big birdsnest colony, so my idea is to attach the frag plug to a length of PVC pipe. I know this will look pretty ugly so I was thinking of attaching zoas to the pipe to conceal it a bit. What do you think...good idea or bad idea??
My other thought was to carve out a space for it in the birdsnest colony but I'm not too hot on that idea.
Chris.

Since the clam would be alone on a tall pedestal like that, I wonder if the flow would be too much for it? I would also be concerned about it moving and falling off. Just my 2 cents...

OK, that's something I hadn't thought of. Does anyone have any opinions on carving out a space for it in the birdsnest colony? It would be pretty easy to keep the birdsnest from ever growing into the clam because it's pretty fragile and easy to break away.

That is not gonna look good. Will ruin the aesthetics of your tank. I’d try to make some room for it where the birdsnest is. Looks like it needs a haircut anyway.

Good idea but the maxima will need a nice flat rock to attach to. I would go with some live rock or "life rock" and make a pedestal and a flat top with some epoxy and superglue

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to ditch the pedestal idea, it would look really weird and out of place. The birdsnest really needs a drastic trim at this point, I would cut it in half if I thought I could find someone to take the other half but it'snot easy to sell or swap "boring" corals where i am. The clam is already attached to a big flat frag plug so I think I'll try to find some rock to build up higher for it.
