Planet Aquarium?

Me again, still love my tank. I’ve read some conflicting things on their customer service recently, hope they aren’t slipping in quality.

So how are they better than say glasscages? I saw someone's build thread on here and while they worked with glasscages I came away from that very impressed with their customer service. Reading here planet aquarium doesn't really like their customers. Someday I'll want to upgrade my tank to around 75-100 gallon and I'm keeping my ears/eyes open.

Planet is owned/run by some of the folks from Oceanic, who arguably built some of the best tanks in the industry. Planet's business model is to only sell through a LFS. I had several LFS provide me quotes on the same tank (through Planet) and each store's markup was different. So their advice to try another store was legitimate.

As for their "rudeness" over the phone... they quite clearly state on their sites that they don't sell to the public. I spoke to the owner once years ago and he said they can get 50 calls a day asking if they work with the public... I'm not surprised that they have started responding the way they have.

I ordered one recently, custom build. I have no complaints with either their price or customer service at this point. In fact, I'm asking for a lot of additional strengthening solutions (to which I am familiar with as the tank I am ordering is rimless). Items like, Eurobracing, corner bracing, etc. I had a lot of concerns with not doing these items as the custom rimless tanks I am familiar with all needed them. To help alleviate my concerns, the store I ordered from put together a call with Planet for them to ensure me of their quality of engineering. Leemar and Crystal Dynamics wouldn't have done that for me.

Sounds too fancy for someone like me I'm more a Honda guy not so much Mercedes. Wonder what they charge for a 100g tank? Sounds very much up to the lfs tho and mine don't sell them as far as I know

As far as I know, any LFS can order from them. Go here, fill out the form and take it to your store.

*This is for a custom order.

Fixed pricing... but hand built in Arlington, Texas USA. Yes... The United States of America. Yes HAND BUILT.

The #1 LFS in my area has a sales floor full of them. The quality of the glass is mind blowing.

The husband/wife LFS owners are at every conference and are well known among our hobbys Mfgrs ELITES. They do not put up with crap. They don't sell crap. They have an entire sales floor of Planet tanks.

Every Planet tank I've put my hands on is absolutely 5-Star quality. Just running my hand along the craftsmanship is amazing.

I've even looked up close and at length the silicone job along the seams. 5-Star quality. Planet tanks are the Mercedes-Benz

Next month I'm dropping $2,500 on a Planet tank 72x24x30 with taller stand. I think its worth every penny of $2,500 in quality construction alone.

ZoWhat... Hey did you end up going through with build?

When you go to planet aquarium and click on an aquarium to build you are automatically sent to dfwaquarium. They are a wholesaler that sell everything you need from EcoTech to planet to fish nets straight to stores. They handle the sale to warranty. Planet aquarium is a builder of one of the best tanks in the country. At one time their cabinets where built by an all female team. The dfw website has msrp pricing. Trucking across this country is very expensive today, and probably why the increase in prices from store to store. If an lfs buys a bunch the shipping would be a tremendous savings.

I’m looking for help, I bought one that was still in the wrapper from someone that worked at my LFS but didn’t have the time to put it up. It didn’t come with any of the plumbing though. I was wondering if I can just buy the plumbing set up from DFWaquarium or am I just better off piecing it together myself. This is my first tank with a sump and I’m having trouble finding the best way to plumb it.

Does it have the overflow box? You can ask the LFS to order that or buy one from anywhere like this one

Then get all the plumbing you need local or online.

Exactly, I recently bought a new 120. I looked at many places like glass cages (yes they seem to be legit now vs before with new owners) and went into multiple LFSs. Every single LFS had a different price. I went with one that had the lowest price and said they have a order coming up and will be able to drop the shipping charges for me.

I got the tank, stand and canopy and couldn't be happier. The whole setup is in "My Tank Thread"

Yes it does. I’m sure I’m just overthinking it but I want to get it right the first time

Ok nice, so then you can buy the bulkheads and plumbing from just about anywhere. That probably has two 1" drains and 1 or 2 3/4" return? The holes cut will be bigger for the bulkheads. Can look up a Herbie overflow setup.

You are correct Jason but just one 3/4 return. I’ll take a look at the link. Thanks!

Plumb it yourself. I just got a Planet tank and ditched their stock plumbing setup. Going to do the Herbie/Bean.

Jus have go grab some slip/slip bulkheads and gate valves plus PVC.
