Planet Aquariums Crystaline 85 gallon build

Is two kessils sufficient for an LPS dominant tank

Should be but I would leave that question for others that have more experience than myself. However, I know there is some discussion on these forums that others are having success with varying PAR levels with LED’s. So I would measure your PAR all around your tank and see what areas work the best for your particular corals. Plus take in to consideration CA, Mg and Alk levels and flow. Not an easy yes or no answer unfortunately!

I have no idea why it posted that way. Here is my response @clark griswold:

Thanks bud. Never easy answers in reefing. Haha.

I may pm Ryan at BRS since he did all that par testing. I don't plan on adding any SPS. And Kessils are just so much more eye appealing IMO.

Any updated pics of tank lately?

Yeah the Kessils are pretty sweet. Can’t beat the shimmer. I will post a pic as soon as I can. Need to clean the front glass before I do.

@clark griswold here are a few pics. Not a lot of corals in there now. Trying to let it mature. Want to go heavy SPS. Dialing in water quality....want it to be as stable as possible before SPS corals are introduced.

Looks really nice. I'm gonna order that same tank near end of summer. Plan to go really slow too. Fish first then mostly LPS. Itching to get started but need my son to finish daycare first so I can have some money freed up.

Well, I just am coming out on the other side of an UGLY dinoflagellate battle. As of now, there are no casualties but the battle isn't quite over yet. Anyway, I am pretty sure it will be done in the next few days. The tank is looking a whole lot better now.

Here is a post on how I fought them:

Next step will be to start stocking with more corals. As of now, I have a Florida Ricordea, green Monti (chili pepper?) and a brain coral. Thinking of either starting with a few more hardy SPS or maybe an anemone and then adding SPS. Still reading and thinking about it. I love anemones but I hear they can be a pain.

Hey @LoneStarReef; how’s the tank coming along? I’m replumbing the return this weekend and finally adding an Apex.

Hey @Gjones138 it’s going well. Been working on my tank this weekend too. Dialing in water chem and flow. Just put in about 5 SPS frags a few weeks ago and they are doing really well. You will love the Apex. Using mine for ATO and for auto water changes.

Well .. it's in and I love it! I am finally on the Apex bandwagon! Can't wait for the Trident ;)
I wish I could use Apex for water changes, but the tank location does not allow for it. You fully stocked?
