OK Im going to pick up my new 125G FW tank tomorrow ...which is first step to converting my old 75 G FW tank to SW. so heres my plan
20 G QT tank with HOB filter and heater from FW tank, add a power head
setting up as soon as I get 20G tank....can I QT first set of fish while SW tank is cycling?

75G SW tank with cover
Reef octopus 100 protein skimmer
2 aqueon pro 300 heaters
Digital thermometer
2 powerheads<havnt picked yet>
Live rock and sand from Local LFS(salt water specialty)
cheap lights that came with aquarium to start
Not doing sump to start.....will prob eventually decide to go that route

Planned stock added in order ...2 0r 3 at a time after QT (if I can find in this order LOL)
Racoon Butterfly
ocellaris Clown( can I do an orange and black with a black and white?)
yellow watchman goby
2-4 green chromis
lawn mower bleny
2-3 banner cardinals
2 royal grammas
dwarf angel(either flame or coral beauty

COC
3-5 hermit crab
emerald crab
4 turbo snails
cleaner shrimp
2 feather dusters
2 sea urchins
I have API 5 in 1 test strips and ammonia test kit...what other testing supplies <besides refractometer will I need?
This is the finished list and I know will take close to a year or more to get there but should this all work together in a 75 gallon. If not what changes should I make

Congrats on the new tank! Yes you can Qt your first round while your new tank is cycling. That's exactly how I worked mine. I'm personally not a fan of the test strips, I never had much luck with them. Red Sea, Hanna testers or salifert kits are good kits.

Hi and welcome to R2R!

You could start the QT tank up for the new fish while the main tank is cycling, but you don’t have to use a dead shrimp and wait, have a look into the bacteria you can buy in bottles. I’ve used ATM Colony twice and can recommend that, and there are others which cycle the tanks pretty much straight away

You will also need nitrate and phosphate test kits if you haven’t got them

Oh and we need lots of pictures on here!

The first thing you need to do is change your thinking... use the 120g for SW and keep the 75g FW! Lol

I have a 75g... now I want bigger!!

I’m sure I will eventually also go bigger as I learn what I’m doing

The reason I’m going with the 125 FW is I have a Bala shark that’s been with me since I started the 75....bought him as a quarter inch critter.....he’s now closing in on 10 inches and not at all happy in the 75G

Sounds like a lot of fun over there! Can I ask how you are going to filter the water? You might think about drilling your tank for the overflow so when your ready its ready. Good luck

AS SOMEONE THAT IS CURRENTLY MOVING FROM A SUMPLESS SETUP TO A SUMP SETUP, LET ME TELL YOU. You should go ahead and go to a sump early. There are many advantages to this including the space for equipment, reactors, and a refugium. About four months ago I purchased a mature Nanocube setup (for the rock and other livestock). After moving that all to a 40 breeder I was excited but have never been quite satisfied. Now I have purchased everything I need to move to a sump and am regretting not doing it in the first place. Thanks and good luck either way. People have success no matter what.

You will want 1 royal grammas, two will fight and with the Chromis, either go with 5 or more or go with one, they will fight unless the "school" is too big for one to dominate.

Is my tank big enough to go with 5 chromis along with everything else I’ve listed?
