hey guys,
so a few months ago i decided to add a little ball of chaeto and some lighting to the inlet chamber of my sump. the secti0n is small and i didn't think much of it but have been very impressed with the positive trends that seem to be resulting since starting it. i'm convinced enough that as the title says i'm planning new sump that will be close to 50% refugium that focuses on chaeto growth for nutrient reduction and just want input on some add-ons that i might be missing. basically i currently run a 40"x13"x15" sump that goes inlet chamber, filter sock tray, skimmer section, bubble trap, return chamber. the next sump will have nearly the same dimensions due to space and the basic idea is to have an inlet flowing right into the refugium, a scaled down skimmer section, bubble trap and a slightly smaller return chamber.
so far all i have for tweaks to the standard glass sump is to use solid walls to contain the refugium to control algae growth.
any ideas that you have or wished you had in your sump?

Everyone has different needs for a sump but for me these where important.

1. Refugium.
2. Large area for skimmer
3. Large ATO reservoir
4. Extra watervolume.

I got this icecap 36XL sump and couldnt be more happier. I even added UV filter on top the ATO and 5 gallon cryptic zone next to the skimmer

that's definitely a beauty. i especially like the little features like the spray bar for the refugium and how everything has lids.
