Right now I have a75 gal some what reef tank. has hammer, stars and mushrooms in it. Im planning on getting a 120 or 150 high next month. Been researching and looking at equipment for what seems forever. Pretty much have that part done. Now on to planning a attack for the swap. The problem is the new tank has to go where the old one is. I will be adding more base rock and more sand cause of the bigger foot print. Now should I replace all the sand or just add what I need to fill the bottom? The plan right now is to use buckets for the rocks, water along with a couple brute cans. Also will have water made up to make up the difference in water volume. Is there anything I need to plan or change or expect from doing this?

Regarding the sand , most will recommend replacing it all. If choose not to replace all just be sure and rinse very well. Just think about the high tank too they are very hard to work on, I have trouble with a 24" deep working on the bottom. Other than that you have a very good plan.

Ok ty. Yea the height of the 150 has worried. It is one heck of a cool looking tank though. Most likely will just go with the orginal plan of the 120.

we are going with the 120. Still may have issues working on the tank since im making the stand a little taller then it is now. But o well will worry about it later.
