Planning New System - SPS dominant Rimless Starphire 40B

I had an internal on my 125 when it was started and took it off and did a external. I had 3 holes from the internal for 1 1/2" bulkheads, made a 3'x2"x6" internal weir box, made a 3'x6"x6" box for outside sucured with momentive rtv 108 silicone, driled bottom of outside box for 3 bulk heads used 1" this time. The plumbing is the same on either way you do it just requires a few different fittings. Mine could use some black acrylic inbetween the 2 boxs as the smoked glass from the internal isn't quite dark enough. Heres a couple pics.

Thanks for the information. Also, thanks to toxic for embedding them. So if I understand correctly, tinkrman, you have both an internal and external box? The purpose on the internal being to deliver water to the external while maintaining top of water in the main tank. Can you confirm that I understand this correctly?

The internal is just to keep the surface skimming. The first pic you can see the 3 holes from when it was an internal set up, these connect the 2 boxs.. Since your tank is rimless you could find someone to cut a weir out and not have to deal with the internal bow at all.

I will be looking into this. I need to discuss it with a local glass shop and see if they can cut it for me. I also have one other source to look into for those services, one that can build the box for me too. I would most certainly prefer a beananimal overflow over all other options.

Well, it's time for me to start a build thread. It will be a slow build with a newborn around, but it's a build nonetheless. I have all equipment right now yet am considering changing my skimmer but otherwise, I have all but a fuge light!
