When I moved into my 180 Gallon tank aprox 2 yrs ago, It was more work than anticipated. I was worn out from the move from a 150 to the 180 and stacked the endless live rock in position to not kill colonies that were encrusted over. I have been looking at some rock scaping designs that fellow reefers used and I will be rescaping soon using acrylic rods and glue if needed. How long can live rock be out of water before harming it?

I would not keep it out of water for long. One thing you can do is wrap the rock in wet newspaper to keep it moist. This is how some companies ship live rock and LFS send the rock home with its customers.

When I have moved rock in the past I always keep it under water all the time. Probably overkill, but it's what I do. I have extra stock tanks but I would think cheap storage containers from Walmart etc. would be fine short term.

When I would have my rock out of the tank while working on something I would keep it in those white styros that corals get shipped in. Every so often I would just pour a cup of water over it.

Make sure you take some before and after pics for us!

Thanks for all the input. Yes I definitely will take some pics. Thats the next part of the hobby that i'm gonna try to master, Taking Pics. lol.
