I've tried collecting a few turtle grass shoots from a local estuary here in SW Florida. But I've not been able to keep them alive for more than a few weeks. But that doesn't mean somebody else might have great luck with them.
Roots growing into the sand bed can be an issue, especially in a reef tank.
Maybe consider a macro algae instead?
