Hi all,

I am most likely going to be storing my RODI in a big 32 gallon pail in the basement and will be mixing my salt water down there. I was kind of hoping to be able to find a nice 5 gallon plastic jug to haul my salt water up and possibly also one to use as and ATO resovoir.

I am trying to stay low cost with this because God only knows how much more money I will be spending on all the “fun” stuff.

Thanks All!

I would just use regular 5-gallon buckets.

Just get a food grade 5g bucket at Lowes. That's what i use for my ATO reservoir and to carry water around. I mix my salt in a 32g grey Brute and keep my RODI water in another 32g Brute.

I use 5 gallon buckets as well. I also use gamma lids, as they are air tight and screw on/off. Granted they cost more than the bucket itself.

My lfs sells containers when you buy rodi. I bought 2 they cost me $5 plus the $1 a gallon or $10 total each. Match the carboys posted above. Use them to transport the water. I use a 5 gallon bucket to fill and store.
Inside is a float valve and a cobalt inline pump to pump the water to my transport containers. I then mix in a 5 gallon bucket. Or pour into my ato reservoir.

You think these are beneficial for mixing saltwater? I like the cap on them for lugging them upstairs.
I use those exact containers for dosing containers for my ATI Essentials. I think they would work great. I think 5 gallon buckets can work great too as said below. I used to use 32 gallon brutes for mixing and now I use 150 gallon containers. All in what makes it easier for you.

Can you keep fresh mixed salt water for s few weeks? I heard that’s no good.

Thanks again for all your advice.

As long as it doesn’t evaporate or exposed to temp extremes. Salt mixes without organics is safe almost indefinitely

I am thinking abut putting two 210 gallon plastic containers in my basement, one storing RO and one containing saltwater that a Neptune DOS will draw from.

Doing a 10% weekly water change on a 150gal system would take the DOS around 3.5 months to drain 200 gallons.

Around 200 is my target because that is the rated amount a new box of Instant Ocean makes, and it would be most convenient to just pour the whole thing in every few months.

Are you saying as long as the salt tank has a lid and in a conditioned basement, it should be fine for 3.5 months? Would you have like a power head in it circulating, or an maybe air pump? My only concern with an air pump would be evaporation, if air is always going in air has to always be coming out.

That's quite a long time. Hopefully someone will chime in that's stored sw for that long. I do about 2 weeks, but not much beyond that. No heater, no powerhead after mixing because it's not needed. The only thing that does happen often is dkh declines after mixing and storage, just something to keep an eye on.
