Hey guys,

This plate has had its mouth open since I brought it home. I am trying to rescue it from a local reefers tank that was not kept very well...

It is not showing any skeleton but its mouth just wont close, its been like this since I put it into my tank. I really hope it can pull through, it is a 6 yr old plate!

I tried feeding it and it does react to food but it does not try and eat it.

Give it a dip with coral RX or any coral dip you have. It may have an inflection in the mouth. If the mouth is getting bigger and bigger, it is dying.

Dont give up on him even if its nothing but skeleton, these guys have been known to produce babies from the skeleton after its decayed

Its mouth does not seem to be getting bigger. At night it closes about 50% of what it is at. It does not seem to be getting worse but doesnt seem to be getting better at the same time :(

I have bayer insceticide but I have never dipped a plate in it before. Do you think it will be good?

If its mouth remains open all the time. It is stressed, and not likely a good outcome. Did you acclimate slowly? Are water perimeters in line?

The corals mouth was open when I picked it up. I know it was a gamble... The tank is fairly new maybe 4 months now, but all of my other corals are doing really well. For instance here is another plate near it thrivin.

Perhaps putting it into a more established tank might be better? I have a tank thats been up for 1yr but theres not a lot of room for a 6 inch plate :)

Hmm might have some progress here. I fed it some mysis and it pulled it all into its mouth then closed about 90%.

That is good. Hopefully whatever was causing its stress has resolved itself.
