They will spread very very quickly, are very ugly (in the eyes of the beholder). Just a nuisance. They do filter the water to some extent, but not worth it. Aptasia X will do it, or a Strong Kalk paste. g/l

IMO they spread the most when you tick them off (unsuccessfully try to kill them). This is more true of the even worse (IMO) pest anemones called mojanos.

So if you're going to do it, do it right!

I dont know what size tank you have or how aptasia there is, but in my 29 gallon bio cube my peppermint shrimp ate about 4 of them in a couple of weeks. BUT I have read not all peppermint shrimp eat aptasia. I still have the peppermint shrimp but he is mostly nocturnal.

Sorry only just noticed I had some more comments. I have a 94l tank and I can only see 2 small aptasia

Aptasia gone I read an article on using boiling water and syringe. It let go of the Rock and then sucked it up into the syringe to remove it

I will keep my eyes open and regularly check to make sure no more pop their heads up lol

tried 4 peppermint shrimp nothing was eaten. as @Greengny said Apstasia X works if you catch them early, but they do spread if you do not inject them right. I had a big one and thought it look cool but realized I was going to have an issue reading this blog on others. I would do a culling and thought I was winning but after a couple of days the would be back with a vengeance they are multiplying faster then I could inject theme . Yesterday I went back to my LFS (WWC) and with luck they had a Matted Filefish Aka Apstasia killer. Put Matt(filefish) in the tank Yesterday and I am seeing more results with Matt then I was seeing with trying to pick them off with chemicals. Matt just pokes around the rock and finds one and snacks.

I'm thinking about taking the frag out of the tank and super glue the ******* apstasia and the glue the frag back to the rock....

This is what I do if the aiptasia on a zoanthid frag. Remove from water, zoanthids should close, pat dry with paper towel, take q-tip with kalk paste, apply paste to aiptasia while carefully avoid zoanthids, Let frag sit out of water for a couple minutes, rinse in display water and return to tank.
