I just barely got my Nikon D3100 + Tamron 90MM 1:1 Macro Lens.

These are some of the first shots i took that i felt were in "focus" this is all new to me..

How do they look? What can i do to make them better?

Been a while since I've messed with fancy cameras, but are you using a stand? If you can use and stand and timer you can allow for longer exposure time, I think f-stops?

paul i am using a tripod. I am finding the hardest part i am having is lighting. My radions are on a schedule so maybe i should just crank them up higher then the 60% they max out at and take my photos that way. Looking at the shortcake picture half is really dark while the other half is light..

Well that's going to happen with any coral! If you're shooting the underside of it you're going to get a darker shadow area, Try tilting the frag the other way, t,ry this on a frag rack. Your best angles will actually be top down as youl always be shooting with the light in the correct position.

Use all the lighting you can when taking pics.

Have you read the stickies in the photography forum here? Great reads if you haven't.

Nice pics. You off to a great start!

I have taken about 300 photos, this seems to be the only one (Tyree pink watermelon chalice) that has turned out pretty cool. When my whites turn on in a couple hours I'm gonna give it another shot. Could someone share their ISO and F-stop settings? I'll tell you what I've tried and maybe compare notes. My before picture was taken with only my blue LED's on. The camera shot the flash. I have a Canon 70D with a Canon 100mm macro. I don't remember what my settings were because I've messed with them so many times. Help...

elitegc. I have no idea the correct way but I found my settings best when I shot like,

9-13fstop
100-300 ISO
And my exposure constantly changed based on where I was in the tank. With my radions I was around -1.7 a lot of the time.

And I never used a flash on coral just fish.

I'm going to try that in a little while. Are you doing any post-processing? Are you shooting RAW files?

Yes shooting raw. Very little post processing I followed the sticky in this forum on post processing

My pictures come out a little blurry… I ordered a wireless remote to control the shutter. I think that will help… I've been using CANON software just to adjust white balance and the histogram...

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this… and starting to better understand the camera itself...

Thanks guys… gonna try a few more…
blakk… I kicked my ISO up to 800, the shutter speed is faster, so I don't have to worry too much about camera shaking...
Steelerfan747… where do you live in Miami… I'm in East Kendall, by Pinecrest...

I had a really hard time trailing these guys around with a manual focus macro trying to snag them..
