Hello after a couple fun and frustrating hours, this is what i came up with for my aquascape. I still had one medium sized rock but i like the somewhat minimalistic look. I was thinking about just adding it to my sump/fuge. Anyhow, what do you think? any room for improvement? I didnt have much depth to work with(only 15 inches.) Does it look like it has plenty of room for corals? Thanks yall for your help and critiques.

Forgot to add that im going to go 2 inches of argonite sand from marcorocks.com

It's looking good. I would consider removing the "bridge" between the two structures, but that is because I prefer to have an area of complete open space.

break the rock up more especially the left one on top.. the idea is to create a lot of shelves and nooks for coral placement

Yeah im not a big fan of the left side and have still been fiddling with it, its hard because i dont have a lot of depth to work with. I originally had 2 islands, but when i added the bridge it really grew on me, i still have a week or so before i mid the water so ill iron out the details with your feedback. Thanks for the assistance!

I really like it, the left cluster could use little work but I like the bridge

That provides good water flow.
stick with what you like and want to see every day

Hmm I'm beginning to think I have way too much rock in mine now, I was told the more rock the better... I do have nooks and crannies but looking at this pic mine seems cramped now.

The most important thing is that the rock can not majorly block or disrupt the flow from the powerheads. As along as you still have good flow in your tank then it is fine.

I'm a fan of removing the bridge as well. You'll lose more coral placement but you'll get some more negative space back with you aquascaping, which I think is important.

I like it. make sure the top rock on the left is stable. the important thing is that you like it. your the one who will be looking at it.

Looks like a dog chewing a soccer ball :)
Add some zoas with appropriate colors to let them grow all over the rocks and you will be amaze :)

I don't think anyone can make the decision but you on what rock placement looks best. On my display I started with two islands. Each starts near the back of the tank and runs forward and to the left. They overlap in the middle with a gap between them giving the tank a look of greater depth. There are lots of articles on the internet on rock placement. Designs like the rock wall, off center single island, etc. As someone mentioned water flow is essential along with lots of places to mount corals but the design has to be what you find most pleasing.

if it were me, I would take the far two rocks out and sump them. I like the bridge and think more of an open space to the right of the bridge would look best with maybe some plate corals covering the sand bed.

2 comments: 1. Make sure you can get a glass cleaner between the rocks and your glass. Can't really tell, but looks close on the left. 2. Not sure what kind of coral you are trying to grow, but try to picture what it will look like with those corals. IMO If it is a bunch of low growing corals like zoas, then you need to make sure that the rock shape is interesting as they retain the shape of the underlying rocks. If you are going with a bunch of tall growing corals, then the base rock tends to get covered up and growth patterns of the coral will change the look of the rock.. At the end of the day, what you like is the only thing that matters . There is nothing that says you can't change it later if you don't like it. It does get harder as the tank matures and has more coral, but anything is possible.

The rock on the top left, have you considered cutting it in half or 2-3 pieces? may make it easier to place.

I agree that it's ultimately up to you. All we can do is offer suggestions. Here's mine.. I like what you have, but what if you moved that big rock on top of the left side and then tilted your bridge up on the left to rest on that big rock. I tried to show you what I mean. Tell me if it makes sense.
