Please explain "Kh"

So.... I am learning as I go here, as most of us do...
My tank seems to be stable and happy.
It is a 30 gallon Nuvo Tank. About 1 1/2 years running now.
In running the tests, I have now purchased the @redsea test kits. They are more complicated to use and harder ( for me) to understand the test results/ dosing.
So what IS "Kh"?
I understand it is "important " but why?
I think this might be the area my tank is low on, but don't really know how to balance it out...

Try browsing through the link below. There are a lot of good articles that explain Alkalinity much better than I ever could. And for what it's worth, I prefer the Hanna Alkalinity checker for testing KH. It's really easy to use and understand.
