I'm going to be picking up a new marineland 93g cube and would like some advice on how best to set it up. My goal is to have an easy to keep (or as easy as possible) tank and I plan on keeping some hardy softies, lps and sps, nothing too crazy. Here is a list of equipment I have already:
skimz sk181 skimmer
mp40
mp10
eheim 1262 return pump
TLF150 reactors X2
JNS alpha 1 biopellet reactor
TLF kalk reactor
JBJ ATO
Apex lite controller
Lighting will be a DIY 4x24w T5 and at least 36 3w cree LEDs

What would you add or replace to make this system as low maintenance and easy to keep as possible. I understand that there no such thing as a low maintenance reef but some are easier to keep than others. I guess I'm looking to be one of those easier to keep reefs. My current reef was a mainly sps reef but I recently took a new job with a demanding schedule and my tank has suffered hence why it will be only hardy low demanding corals. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks

HAHAHAHAHA! You just can't make up your mind bro! You go through tanks like you go through cars....

If you're interested, you can have my old dosing pumps. They're 1.1 ml/min peristaltic pumps from BRS. Just give me a call if you want them. You also may want to consider a kalk reactor plumbed inline from your ATO.

Well the initial thought was to down grade but Melody wants to keep the fish and the more I thought about it I don't think I'd be happy with a smaller tank. I've always liked the footprint of the 93g and it will fit into that corner perfectly so there it is, lol. It's funny that you mention the cars thing since I'm looking for a new one, haha. As for the pumps I mean to keep just a few easy to keep sps so I'm hoping the kalk reactor will be enough to maintain my parameters, thought that might work out better, hum.

They're nice tanks for sure. You buying brand new or did you find one used? Building a stand or using the factory one? If you're not keeping much in the way of SPS, then you could most likely get by with just water changes and the kalk, but those dosing pumps are yours if you want them... they're just sitting in the shed. They could probably use a new set of tubes, but worked great.

I figured you were due for a new car, you've been driving the Legacy for almost a year...

Buying new, I wish I could find one used. Building a stand, same trim and color at the top and bottom as the current stand but with stacked stone tile in between. I just have to make sure I can get the stand through the door, it's going to be tight.

Keeping the legacy. I need a commuter car with the distance I drive now, I don't want put so many miles on a new car.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I'm also thinking of running a turf scrubber, any thoughts on that?

Wow, I remember a time when you could post something on here and actually get a few responses, what happened to R2R? Thanks for the response Scott, I guess I should have just called you, lol.

That looks like a pretty Primo set of hardware you've decided on. I wouldn't change a thing but to add a reactor for dosing. I have had both reactors and a bubble magus doser and prefer the reactor. For me it was more economical and reliable after everything was dialed in. I did however spend a good deal on the regular and solenoid to avoid a massive dump of co2 which plagues these devices.

Make sure and get neo-mag to add to your media if you go the reactor route.

Well the plan sounds good so far. I would consider taking swanny up on the dosing pumps. Some of the easier to keep corals are also the faster growing. So they will be more demanding on dosing. I like the fact that your going to run T5 and LED the color blends you get should be great. Do you plan to use the LEDs to ramp up sun rise/set?

I think you have a heck of a list there. Myself, I prefer CaRX and Kalk reactors to dosing but that is really up to each person. Next up for my build is DIY reactors! (Ca and Kalk)

I really think the key to ease of use is proper equipment and redundancy where appropriate.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try the kalk reactor since I already have it and adjust from there. I already have a bunch of two part so it would be easy to give that a try with dosers. I think it might be some time before I need a cal reactor but I wouldn't complain if I got that type of growth where i needed it. I'm really thinking about adding a turf scrubber to help with nutrient export.
