Please help diagnose my Wrasse

My wrasse has a large swollen area at the base of the tail. It’s bulged out on both sides but recently it has gotten much worse and the left side is broken through the skin. For a few days it looked like a white worm or flesh coming out. I took a video and got some still shots from it but still hard to see. I caught him and put him in my hospital tank. I would like to know what is wrong and how to go about treating it.

It’s hard to see but it could be a wound with a possible secondary bacterial infection.

Was there any aggression in the tank or did you receive the wrasse looking like this?

Is the area around the wound white or pinkish? Does the wrasse eat? Any other issues? Difficulty swimming?

For treatment I would consider acriflavine/ruby reef bath 90min followed by metro-kanaplex-furan or NFG for 2 weeks. If things don’t start improving after a week or look worse then a change in therapy may be needed. Abx deplete oxygen fast so make sure to have good flow in the tank and watch for ammonia buildup.

It would help to get a better pic and some more info before you treat.

I’ve had the fish a year or so and this just recently started as a small bump and got larger and larger. There isn’t much aggression in the tank but I wouldn’t throw the wound theory out. The fish swims and eats normally. I didn’t see any fork in the tail of the white thing and didn’t notice the white thing moving at all. The white thing is also gone or it just can’t be seen. Now it just looks like an open wound no redness or white more dark colored. I can’t get a video to load it just keeps getting an error. I have marycny two and Prazipro on hand at all times. I’ll have to order those medications. Thank you for the suggestions so far.
