So I'm pretty positive that what I have not 100 percent sure because I do not have a microscope around to check and guarentee. But the other day when I posted my phosphate and nitrate were at zero. So I was suggested to start overfeeding my fish and not clean my glass to see if it will help. And well it seems worse. I read that someone was dosing phosphate and nitrates. Is that okay to do? I have a small bioload with only three fish. Today is my day off which normally mean water change day. I have my water all mixed up but wasnt sure if I need to skip this change to let nutrients build back up or can I do the change and dose afterwards to speed it up. Someone also suggested to remove some of my sand because he thought it looked too deep. I do have a 4 nassarious snails and a diamond goby. Need more cleaners or less sand??? Sorry for all the questions still my first year into this hobby.

Do You have any corals in this tank? I did a 8 day lights out & in cleared up. worth a try.
Also they will want to know your parameters.
They being those folks who know more about it than I do !

Most often they seem to get provoked into blooming by way of starvation – lack of dissolved macro nutrients, N and/or P.

So if you have any "extra" filtration set up to remove N or P from the tank (refugium, GFO, et al) I would stop those things first and see what happens.

If you have none of those things, or (e.g.) you have corals being overgrown so you need to act more quickly, then you'll want to dose something like potassium nitrate and potassium phosphate to raise your levels immediately and directly. (See Seachem or Brightwell, et al....DIY formulas as well)

Since you don't mention any side-effects (just ugly?) I'd take a little more time to confirm what you have is dinos. There are some easy tests you can run that are linked on the first post here:
Dinoflagellates – Are You Tired Of Battling Altogether?

Read the first post and hit as many of the links there as possible to get a feel for what's happening.

Holler if/when you get your dosing materials....and feel free to post on the dino thread if you want. :)

And consider getting a $10 toy scope too. :) It'll help!

Yes I have some corals in there and here's a pic off what's I have that I can test for

That's good since you know lack of nitrogen is the problem.....

As mentioned cease and desist on any "extra" anti-nitrate filtration.....biomedia, refugium, media reactor, et al.

If that doesn't help or doesn't apply, then consider dosing nitrates to ≥5 ppm and keeping them there. (Keep testing phosphates along the way – you do not want them going to zero either.)

Ok right now I'm running my Intank media basket with only filter floss purigen and chemipure elite. Should I take out everything but the floss. And I also have the coralife uv sterilizer it came with the tank so never thought about not using it.??I'm heading to my lfs later today what brand would you recommend to dose with

Should be pretty simple fix since the cause seems apparent. Drop phosphates down to .05 or so and bring up nitrates. Mine popped up when nitrates crashed too. Cleared right up.

Engaging the UV won't hurt and may help.

Brightwell or Seachem seem to be the two most popular nutrient options, but there're others as well as DIY options. :)

So I'm having trouble finding what I need to dose with. My local lfs isnt much help when I explained my issue. What's are the diy ways. Its it's cheaper and does the same job that's fine with me

or
...are you main options, and you should be able to find (or request) them anywhere. Online, if not locally.

Maybe your LFS can help now that you have specific products to request?
So I went to my local LFS to grab something for my nitrates since my phosphate are rising on their own. They didnt haveeither on for nitrates but had it forphosphates.. the guy said to go grab a raw shrimp peel it and toss in my tank for no more then 12 hours. I was not sure how that would effect my tank and maybe make it worse. So I figured I would ask you first.

Rotten meat = cure! Make $$$$.

Order some yourself from online if the store wont get some in stock or at least a bottle for you. Their vendor surely carries it if they carry the phosphate version.
