I have the eschopps eclipse overflow (the Medium one). It comes with the drill bit included.

Please help me!!!!

1. Can I use the same bit to also drill the return hole? Its ok for both holes to be same size?

2. What size is the eschopps eclipse bulhead? Or basically, what size bulkhead do I need to order?
2a. Do I want thread/thread, or slip/slip, or thread/slip? I don't even know what it means!!!!

3. Do I want ball valve or gate valve? I read that gate valve is safer, which I prefer.
3a. Do I want FPT valve or Slip valve? The pics are below, are they the right ones? I don't know what that means either........
3b. I will want 3 valves, right? one for the main line and one for the emergency line?

4. For this eclipse bulkhead, what size of tubing do I buy? 1"?

Bonus Question: Do I paint before or after I drill?

Thanks a lot.

1. No, your return holes should be smaller than drain. 1" bulkhead for drains and 3/4" for returns is common.

2. The overflow kit should supply all the bulkheads needed.

2a. They will be slip fittings so choose the slip fitting valves.
Slip means you can slide and glue a piece into it vs threading a threaded piece in.

3. Gate

3a. Slip!

3b. And yes a gate valve on main drain and secondary if doing bean animal for tuning.

4. 1" schedule 40pvc for drain and 3/4 for returns!

Bonus question: paint whenever. Just leave bare glass rings for the bulkhead gaskets.

Bonus answer : buy threaded x slip 3/4 return bulkheads so you can screw locline nozzles to the inside of the tank.

Cheers and goodluck!

Thank you.

the kit only provides one bulkhead for the overflow. So for 3/4 return pipes, what size bulkhead do I need to buy?, also 3/4, like the pic below? Which one is the right one?

Does the return line need any valve, or any safety feature?

And you mean, the bulkhead should not go over paint, it has to be directly on the glass?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks for the help.

A 3/4" bulkhead would be for 3/4" pvc so that will work fine.

Just make sure the thread X slip fitting in the middle photo has the threads orientated inside on the flange side so you can do what i suggested.

No valves are needed for the return lines. You should have a fully controllable DC pump as your return pump so you can speed it up or slow it down as needed.

Also, you got me thinking...probably a good idea to paint around the sealed bulkhead so you dont need to mess around with scraping a bare circle for your gasket to seat to the glass.

just want to double check before purchase, from my reading, for a 3/4"bulkhead I drill a 1 3/8" size hole. Is my understanding right?

@Saltyreef ? Anyone?
