Hi guys. I just got a new Rainfordi Goby in the mail yesterday and he seemed to be doing fine. Then this morning I look at him and my firefish and both their fins seem to be tattered and messed up like fin rot or like they’ve been nipped. The thing is, they both seemed perfectly fine yesterday and there doesn’t seem to be any aggression between them. They are both eating well too. I’ve tried to get a picture of the firefish so you can see, but it was kinda hard to get a good pic. Please tell me what y’all think it is and what I should do.

Pretty fast for fin-rot.

Rot will be more 'all over', battle damage tends to be one 'bite'.

Do you have the ability to separate them?

Any other fish in the tank?

I have no other fish in the tank. I do have a Red Sea reefer 170 that I just set up but there’s a clown goby in there and the tank is still very new and I’m having a massive cyano outbreak in that tank so I’m kinda wary about moving any fish into there. I also have an empty 5 gallon tank hanging around that I guess I could add some live rock to and move one of them into.

He may have done it to himself. I have one as well, and he likes to squeeze through every crack and crevice in the rocks.

Honestly, it doesn't look bad to me at all - I had to really look. I would take a wait and see approach. My firefish got a big chunk taken out of his fin and it's growing back. I suspect he got nipped, or a crab grabbed him since he sleeps in a cave right at sand level.
