Hi everyone! I am at the mercy of these things rapidly multiplying in my sump. Does anyone know what these are. They look like maggot cocoons to me. I really hope they're not.

Sponges, they are filter feeders. They will come and go depending on nutrients

Pineapple Sponges I think

Pineapple sponges, agreed. Their population will grow or shrink depending on amounts of particulates and organics in your system. They don't bother anything.

Thanks guys I think it really is pineapple sponge, after you've mentioned it, I looked at the pictures on google. Does anyone know what can control its population? Fish, invertebrates, nutrient control?

pineapple sponge! I have so many in my sump as well... and in my skimmer that I need to clean out. Only thing that Ive managed to do is manually remove them. If anything Id leave them they are just filter feeders, if anything they are more beneficial than bad.

Mainly nutrients, organics and particulate levels control their population. I wouldn't put anything that would eat it into a reef system.
