Hello,

I picked up a Coral Beauty about 10 days ago. I had setup a quarantine tank for Corals since I don't have lights on my DT yet and placed him in there for observations. My wife and I have noticed a few spots on him that last for a day or two and then disappear. He has a new one that is rather large today and has something coming out of it so I don't think it is ich. Is this something stress induced or is it ich?

When we purchased him he was acclimated but not added to the display tanks in the store. We had him pulled out of the bucket and he looked great. The next day I went back and the cardinals I believe it was in the bucket with looked horrible. Wish I took a picture of them since it may help here.

I do have a tank I can setup as a QT to treat if needed. I know I should have setup a true QT, but the thought given from the LFS was that it would be a good test to see if the CB likes to nip at coral or not. It is active and constantly grazing on algae on the glass. I also have sea lettuce in the tank that he nips at often. Doesn't go straight for mysis when I add them, but believe it is picking it off the bottom when I give it privacy.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

At first glance it looks like Lymphocystis... but is this the thing you said looks like it is coming out?

It’s hard to tell from the photo... but it looks like it could be an anchor worm. More common in freshwater but can affect marine fish as well. Especially if your LFS stocks fresh and salt.

Does the tail look like it is forked?

Not that I can tell and looks green. Hard to tell since it is very small and it is always on the move.

It could possibly be another type of parasite/worm. You could try a freshwater dip, see if that has any effect on it. Prazipro would probably be the next course of action depending on what the freshwater dip does/shows.

Thank you. I will read up on freshwater dipping and get some Prazipro if needed.

Odd. I see a notification on my phone where it was asked if it is still with corals , but not on this string even after refreshing. It is still in a coral/invert tank and I will setup a new QT tank if needed. I keep extra bio media in most aquariums so I can seed a tank and start one quickly.

I edited it out. I realized I asked for information that was already given... [emoji2360]

I did the freshwater dip last night and have everything I need to setup a fish only QT. I also have Prazipro on hand if it is needed. The three spots you can see in the photo are gone. Do I just observe now and medicate only if needed?

He doesn't really go after frozen yet and there is algae on the glass for him to graze on in the current tank, along with some live sea lettuce. He does actively graze all day so would prefer to keep him in the current tank, but will move if that is what is best.
