Hi,
This is my first post but I have been lurking for some time. I currently have a Solana 34 that will be upgraded to a Reefer 425 (presently cycling). Recently, a red, hair-type algae has taken root and is spreading over the rock work rapidly. I took pictures to my LFS and they seemed unsure of what it was, but sold me a couple of Mexican Turbo snails. Can anyone suggest what this algae actually is and what I can do to combat it?

Welcome to R2R!!!
I can’t really tell in the picture but is it more hair like or mat like? Possibly cyano but I can’t really make it out in the pictures as I’m using my phone at the moment.

Hard to tell from the pic.
Can you take a close up pic? Even if you can get some of the algae out of the system and place it in a seprate container then take a pic.

Welcome to the REEF!!

Possibly cotton candy algae (think that’s what it’s called anyway)
