Please help me add a UV to my system!

I have a Ostreopsis outbreak and I need help adding a Coralife 36 w UV into my system as soon a possible. I'm really struggling how to add this to my exsisting system and it shouldnt be that hard. I only plan to use it on as needed basis. I have a 100g dt plumbed to my basement so about 16 feet below. I probably have about 50 to 60g of water in my sump. Im using a reeflow Goby for my return pump. Based on the chart for that pumping Im probably getting more then 1000 gph flow at the return. Here are my questions:
1. Should i add the uv below my dt in the cabinet or near my sump in the basement
2. Does it matter how I mount the uv horizontaly or verticaly and can I mount it to the wall under my dt?
3. How should I plumb this? Valves before after?
4. If I do a closed loop and mount the uv below my dt can i sit a mag 9.5 pump on the floor with the in line into the dt and then thr out line back to the dt? Seems like this should work, but I dont like the idea of putting flexible hoses into my DT. This really needs to look good.
5. Do I need to add a pre-filter and if so any recommendations on something simple?
6. If the best route is to add the uv to my exsisting return how do I control the flow through the uv w/o lowering the flow to my dt? If I go this route i assume i need a bypass or something. Can anyone help me with a smart waybto do this?

I feel like these questions were addressed in your other thread.
 
hi 1 nice set up ,go basic put mag in sump w sponge intake,return into close as poss to return pump
2standing up so no air pockets ,put ball on exit to slow to desired flow ,good unit

Thanks @Silent . Im still confused as to how to set this up. I bbn have picked up some pieces from a couple different threads but I really dont know what the layout of the setup should be. I figured the diy thread may give me some more details.

If not a permanent installation I would use the included tank mount bracket and hang it on the display. I'd buy a cheap Harbor Freight pump with the correct flow rate for the dose you need and place it in the display with the water returning to the display. This installation should be outlined in the Coralife instruction manual and would be close to the tank that is having the growth. Basically to give you maximum effect. This would be better than the sump that is 16 feet away which will reduce exposure and be recycling water that likely doesn't have the problem.

Thanks. This is a culmination of many years, but i have never needed a uv before now. I would fo simple but the sump is in the basement plumbed through the floor so I can add extra lines through the floor without major construction and the mag cant push the water up that high. If i put the mag directly under the dt then that may work but im not sure how that would work. Can I set the mag on the floor and run it as a closed loop? If so i cant use the prefilter that came w the pump.

Tank is eurobraced so the hang on tank mounting bracket wont work. I guess I could use the bracket to mount it under the DT and use the method you suggested. I dont really like dropping a powerhead into the display but that would work which may get me up and running fast. At this point that would be a good thing.
 
read manual for flow specs off top of my head think 695 gph ,but slower the better ,XX if running slower than specs just feel body for heat ,too slow will over heat blow bulbs ,just checked 400-1200gph flow rate go 700 perfect

That is something that I was wondering about. It seems logical but others in ankther thread have said I want to run it to the dt directly, but I wasnt sure.

I'm sure you could figure out a way to modify the mount to fit the eurobrace, but if not just wall mount or stand mount it, but I'd be recycling the display water, not the sump.

The manual for the 12x says 290 for parasites, 680 for algae, and 1550 for bacteria, but in the nuisance algae thread a knowledge poster told me to run close to the 290 for the Dino's Im having an issue with. So does around 300 make sense?

Not really. In a nutrient deprived system dinos are going to want to use the light in the display for nutrition, growth and reproduction.

Things grow where conditions are optimal. Cyano in low flow for example. I could plumb two systems together and create two totally different environments using light alone. In fact, this is exactly what happens when you have a refugium setup. In the case of dinos, since they are deadly, the quickest treatment is priority. Attack them where they live, in the reef with your prized inhabitants.

Thanks @CuzzA your the second person that said I should plumb this dirently from the DT. I can wall mount it under the display in the cabinet easy enough. Then do I get a powerhead that will push about 300gph and drop it in the tank? I would prefer not to put a bunch of junk in the tank but I do have a couple maxijet pumps but they may not have enough flow and then i have mag 9.5 but that wont fit in the display.
 
i think 300 may run hot as said slower the better try and feel housing for heat ,i'm out of this one guys good luck happy reefing

Yes. That is what I would do. Do a simply bucket test to make sure you have the correct flow rate.

I see you have a refugium as well. Once you hook up the UV, you may want to go a head and turn off the refugium light and even the display lights for a few days. Some black the tank out, but if you're catching this early you could probably knock it out quick with the uv and lights off for a few days.

Well this has been going on for a few weeks so Im not sure if Im early or not, but the mess on the sand has improved a little. I stopped doing water changes let my nutrients climb some and which freaks me out and ive been adding micobacter7 and now i appear to be getting some algae on the rocks which sucks but i heard is good to out compete dinos. It wasn't getting much better ao i bought the uv.
