I have had my reef tank up and running for over a year and have yet to grow any coraline algae. I have tried purple up, and other additives that supposedly help grow it with no luck. Please help me!!

I have a 250w MH, coralife super skimmer, rio 2100 ph, & 10g sump. params are: spec. gravity - 1.026, dKh - 11, calc - 500, pH- 8.4, Nitrates 20ppm, Nitrites - 0ppm, phosphates - 0ppm, ammonia - 0ppm

When you say none are you rocks not covered in it? My personal opinion, be careful what you wish for. Once it starts growing it does not stop and you will be asking the best way to get it off your glass, power heads, everything. Oh and purple up, its mostly just calcium.

listed it all already

Try getting a rock with coraline form a friend or a LFS and try to scrub the coraline off into your tank. I have read on another forum that they did that and it worked.

I covered my rock in under 6 months purple pink and burgundy that plates like montipora. You need coralline first. Just like the above post. And you need to spread it by scraping it off and putting it other places. Turn off the return pump and keep I tank flow. Then let things settle. Shoul have growth like the above mentioned. When you will need urchins to chew it down.

Agee of the plating burgundy spots turned into beautiful rose like corals that friends asked me what type of coral is that.

I'm still huntin for the gold and a few other colors.

Amen to dat!!!^^^^^ that stuff sucks man.... But if you let your water get dirty it will explode.... Corralline is a algae it needs po4 and nitrates to grow fwiw... Normally just up mag and it will explode!!!!

I seeded my tank with fresh cured live rock. Scrape some off and sprinkle around the tank. Make sure you have good flow, proper levels, and wait. It'll take off!

yeah as stated before if you can get a rock from a lfs or friend that has it the coralline algae already on it you're set as long as you have great calcium and lighting you will see it start to grow rapidly...also I've got a nano and put a scarlet hermit crab in which was only three bucks and most of their shells have pink or purple coralline already covered on them I've never seen one that didn't and they crawl around your rocks and tank bumping small pieces off their shell which in turn spreads and seeds the algae...since I added mine I've seen it start to seed great! I would say this is one of the best ways to do it b.c their shell will rub against the rocks and seed it everywhere good luck!
