Hi I have a 24 JBJ Nano Cube, I have 2 clown fish and a dottyback. in the past 6 months I have been having these anemones grow on the live rocks. the biggest is 1 inch long and 1 inch long tentacles. they do not like bright light.

That is why they used to call them Glass Anemones.

Would someone please recommend the best way of removing the glass anemones? I don't have any coral, i do have the live rock, sand, 2 clown and the dottyback in the 24g tank.

Glass Anemone=Aiptasia.

1. Boiling water and a syringe.
2. Kalk paste and syringe.
3. Joes Juice or similar products.
4. Peppermint shrimp, not to be confused with Camel shrimp.
5. Berghia nudibanches.

What has worked for me is Peppermint shrimp ( although they can be their own pest) and making sure Aiptasia did not make it into the tank in the 1st place.

You are welcome. :thumb:

Take that rock out and boil it.. If you don't kill it 100% you will have hundreds of them in no time.. It's pretty hard to kill inside the tank with the above methods.. Berhgia are good but they die when there're isn't anymore good for then. Not very nice to starve them to death :-( peppermint shrimp are okay but they don't really tend to really eradicate 100%..

Peppermint shrimp have worked for me with no problems now. They like to steal food when I target feed but, if you feed them first no worries good luck.

Don't boil live rock as a front-line treatment for aiptasia. That's just wasteful because it will kill the rock and everything in it, which is something people don't seem to understand on this site. Buy kalkwasser, make a paste that is real thick, inject onto the closed anemone-done. It will kill it in one shot usually, but obviously watch the spot for any signs it is still there and hit it again if needed.

I appreciate everyone advice, this past weekend I did my water change and tried the syringe with hot water, it killed the 3 large anemones. I removed the rocks from the tank and tried to remove the dead anemones from the rocks so not to contaminate the tank. After a though cleaning I put the rocks back and the next day I did see some smaller anemones that I was not able to use the syringe on and I was not able to see when I pulled the rocks out. Since it’s a small tank I was hopping not to use chemicals; however I will try chemicals next since TEMPEST has a great point and the live rocks would become dead rocks if I boiled them.

Again thank you for the help everyone.

I don't know if this will help or not I had the same prob awhile ago in my 75 tank I bought 2 pepermint shrimp they ate it all in a week. So after it was gone I left them in for another week feeding the pepermints . Then took them out took them back to the lfs and got a credit on next purchase . Don't know if ur lfs is this nice or not but worked for me good luck

I just
pull the rock out scrape them off the best I can then I put a little lemon juice on the area let sit for 5 min ten a quick ro/di fresh water dip and put the rock back I have hade no issues with them coming back or spreading

The rock will regenerate all micro organisms with a few weeks... Not a big deal unless it's the only rock in your tank..
