So I bought this coral without investigating and have tried and tried to figure out what it is and how it will grow. LFS told me it was "some type of leather". Please help me out.

Looks like a baby long tentacle Plate Coral.

Yes, i just did some reading on it. Looks like they don't do well in captivity. Lesson learned!

Most reefers I know do quite well with plates. What color is yours? I have a short tentacle Orange one and a long Tentacle striped green one.

So now I'm confused.....if this can freely move as described in the article, how will it do this glued to a frag plug?

I sometimes box "moving" corals into position by surrounding with rubble or larger rocks which looks very natural I think (sorry, no pics). I believe they move by inflating with water first, become more buoyant and then the current pushes them along so might want to consider this when placing them.
Good luck

Perfect and looks like you have several places it can be placed; beautiful corals and good luck

I've moved it....attached a pic.

It will like it down there. It’s really cool to see them inflate and then cruise across the sand.

Here’s a few pics of both of mine:

My long Tentacle plate has a skeleton that is about 2 1/2 inches..... it stays inflated to almost triple that size.

They will also appreciate some meaty food from time to time.

Wait until they start to multiply. Here's mine on the right loaded with babies. If it ever starts to look like it's dying just leave it in the tank. That doesn't ways mean it's in trouble.
