Hey guys, this is so unreal I can't believe this is happening. My family's prized cowfish that we affectionately named Clyde is on the brink of death. This morning, he was eating his mysis shrimp like he has been doing for the last 7 months. I just found him and it looks like the scales on his horns and right side have been removed. He is not moving unless I touch him. Could a pump have done this?!? Any input is helpful.

I have him in a net breeder for freshwater fish.

Tank parameters
  • Salinity - 34 ppm
  • Nitrate - under 5
  • pH - 8.0
  • Calcium - 510 ppm
  • Alk - 11 dkh
  • Mag - 1350 ppm

Not sure whether this thread belongs here or in fish disease but I'm in shock and crying on the inside. I really don't want to lose this fish.

Thanks,

Possible it was a pump. But hard to say without seeing.

The only concern on an I’d at if it’s an infection.
But if it was that fast prob a pump.

I belive general fort aid for injury is to reduce streets. Low light. As much oxygen as possible and then

With injury , I don’t belive there’s much to be done sadly.

Thinking ahead , one the stress has gone down , you can set up a hospital tank, or bucket really, and do a methylene blue treatment.
Mosty a Bath.

I can't see anything useful in the pictures, but if it's an injury the MB bath is a good idea. If nothing else a bath in Acriflavin would do some real good. If it were me, I'd place him in a QT after the bath and attempt to get a better picture to assess the problem and the possible solutions.
