Please Help me with my LED hang on bracket/Arm

Hi so I have a 30 gallon reef tank which is 36 inches in length and 13 inches width by 16 inches in depth. My question is about my USA orbit led mounting bracket! I got my adjustable hang on bracket today and I'm looking at it and I realize that my tank width is only like 13 inches wide and the bracket is like 15 inches long so it hangs over my Aquariam which I do not like at all!!! Can I possibly just cut off a little ? I have a professional carpentry saw so I think I want to just cut the 2 inches off because it is the only mounting bracket for my specific USA orbit led light. Has anyone ever done this? Here is a picture. Thank you very much

Seems like if you cut back to the slot in the bracket, you might compromise the strength of it. Can you mount the bracket to the wall instead of the tank?

I would cut the bracket so it’s not over hanging the tank and drill a hole to mount the light centre of the tank this won’t compromise on strength either as the strength is in the angle if anything it will be more sturdy.
