My coral beauty angel has got white spots on him in a row going down his body. I think it looks like messed up scales but I don’t know. He loves going in and out of rocks and he’s scraped him self before. I lost an angel before due to flukes and I don’t want to make the same mistake if this is flukes or ich.

That might be the lateral line you are seeing. It would be a little odd to have it only on the body and none on the fins.

I would just feed well with variety and observe for a bit, unless the spots start multiplying. With ich, the individual spots will go away and more will appear in different places within a few days.

I am going to respectfully disagree with the diagnosis - but not the recommendations:) - It could be nothing. I would carefully observe for whether the 'spots' move, disappear and reappear, etc. There is no reason that a disease (IME) would appear on the lateral line - like that - unless its a virus. I would consider readying a hospital tank - just in case - perhaps getting some copper on hand' - and hope for the best - (watch) - and prepare for the worst - a parasite. If it indeed is a virus - there is not much to do except feed well, exceptional water quality - and patience

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Are the spots just on its right side or are there some on the left?

The spots are right on the lateral line, and flukes are more random in their location. I’m trying to figure if it is lateral line erosion. How long have you had the fish? It looks like it could be a bit thin.

Update, I came home and saw larger spots. I did a freshwater dip to see if anything would come off. Most of the white spots came off. I have a QT tank set up it is 10 gallons. I bought some fritz copper and I will put him in their in the morning if I see a return of spots. He is a little shaken up from the dip, but he is still somewhat active. He is still small so I think a 10 gallon QT would be ok. Thoughts? Also I am new to Reef2Reef so sorry about the messy thread.

Copper won’t help if the issue is flukes….it is used for certain protozoan infections. Flukes are better treated with prazipro. That is reef safe, so is a better choice because you don’t have to move the fish….besides, if it is flukes any other fish in the tank will need treatment as well.

The pattern of the spots just isn’t random enough to be flukes or protozoans…I mean, they could have randomly grown in that pattern, but unlikely.

My guess is flukes or bacterial tufts/viral nodules
