I am quarantining a harlequin tusk that presented with very minor fit rot, heavy breathing and leaning to one side when swimming...any help with diagnosis??

I'm gonna treat for bacterial infections but the issue I'm having is that my hospital tank water turns milky /cloudy overnight. This happened twice in a row where I would change most of the water in the HT and it turns cloudy by morning and gets worse by the hour. What do you suggest?

29 gal Hospital tank
one 4" harlequin tusk
used display tank water to fill
ammonia is present but very very low like .25ppm
no medications or additives yet

Did you cycle your tank? If not is probably bacteria bloom which will settle down. As for your sick fish, I'll call the experts for you. @Humblefish @melypr1985

I did not cycle it but I filled it with water form my display and transferred a piece of marine pure from y display sump to the newly set up hospital tank.

Yes, sounds like a bacterial bloom. You can try adding more bacteria in a bottle to help cycle. Watch the Ammonia and having Prime on hand is handy for emergencies. GL

^^ This is the first problem that needs to be addressed ASAP. Dose a reducer (e.g. Seachem Prime, Amquel) and start doing water changes. Ammonia, even at very low levels, is toxic to all marine animals.

Do you have the MarinePure block in a HOB filter? It needs to have water flowing through it in order to be effective for biological filtration.
