Please Help Vertex in-80

I have never used Vertex and i just got a Vertex in-80 and don't really know what to expect as far as, removing crud and how to set it up properly? Can you please help ? I'm sure it's all connected the right way just don't know how to adjust water level.

Skimmer should be in 7" of water. You adjust the skimmer wet/dry by rotating the pipe with the air connection. Should be labeled on pipe on open/closed. Adjust dry to begin and slowly work your way to desired wetness.

now where the water comes out of that end goes under the water? or is it so posed to be out of water?

would a super reef octopus xp-2000 and the vertex in-80 in a 90 gallon plus a 40 gallon tank plumbed into it be over kill for those 2? i have the 90 gallon fully stocked with fish and the 40 gallon will have 10 clowns in it.
