That looks like a failed silicone seam to me. It is a little hard to tell from the picture, but that looks like a seam just for an internal baffle. Is that a corner and my eyes are playing tricks on me?

possibly an air bubble under pressure that has worked its way through the path of least resistance. i know of nothing living that will eat through silicone or glass.

Can you post another picture a little further out? It's kinda hard to tell where this is on the tank. It almost looks like it is on a baffle.

that looks like a poor seal to me that has continued through to the bottom pain of glass. i'de say there are two ways of doing this...take part the whole thing and re-do all of it...or cut away the baffle and clean off as much as you can with a stanley blade then re-seal and redo baffle. make sure all the sealing is done internally as external sealing doest hold water pressure.....at all. or you could just whack a shed load of sealant all around it and keep fingers crossed ;)
